mr. Universe and mr. Europe

Seen in the adjoining photograph are two of the world's finest developed men. Posed with Miss Britain, and photoflashed immediately after the judges had arrived at their decision in the Mr. Universe Contest recently held in London, on the left is Steve Reeves, "Mr. America", "Mr. World", and "Mr. Universe" of 1950. On the extreme right is sensational Reg Park, "Mr. Britain", "Mr. Europe", and runner up for this year's Mr. Universe award.

This photograph speaks louder than 1,000 words, for both Steve Reeves and Reg Park were totally unaware that their photograph was being taken, and they are both completely relaxed and unposed. The two great men were so closely matched, as evidenced in the above picture, that the judges were forced to deliberate an entire afternoon before they were satisfied that they had arrived at a just decision, acclaiming Steve the winner and Reg a very close second. Reg was also awarded the Mr. Europe title and three special prizes were voted to him by European Physical Culture associations.

Reg was the very first to congratulate Steve on his victory. He was full of praise for Steve as a great bodybuilder and a perfect gentleman. Reeves, while overjoyed with his victory, was just as enthusiastic about Reg's terrific physique, stating to your editor that in his estimation, no one will come close to Reg in another year. In fact, when Steve saw Reg the day before the contest and noted how greatly Reg had improved during the last few months, Steve admits that he spent a sleepless night, fearful of his chance for victory.

Recently our publications have been giving considerable publicity to Reg Park. We did this because we knew that Reg was positively one of the greatest physiques of all time and that he was the brightest star developed this year. That our confidence in him was justified was conclusively substantiated by the closeness of this great contest. however, in being adjudged second best developed man in the entire Universe, Reg Park has earned the enviable reputation of leaping right to the top of the world in only two contests. His fist saw him take the Mr. Britain title and his second, the Mr. Europe award and runner up to Mr. Universe. Certainly with more experience even greater glory will be his. Only 21 years of age, Reg's latest measurements are: Neck, 18.6", Upper Arms Cold, 18.5" - over 19" pumped up! Normal Chest 52.4", Waist, 31", Thighs, 27.6", Calves, 17.4", Height, 6'1½", Weight, 220 pounds.

The editor and the entire staff of the Weider Publications sincerely congratulate our famous contributor and booster, Steve Reeves in winning the Mr. Universe title for this year. We also congratulate Reg park, another Weider Booster for taking his title, and in doing so, having established himself as one of the celebrated GREATS of Muscledom. We now can look forward to bigger and better accomplishments from these two stars and the Weider Publications are PROUD to have two such wonderful physical specimens and real gentlemen on their staff.
